A participant in our learning group, who is right-handed, had the following tinnitus experience:
Her son had increased problems with homework etc. one week, so she told him that his cell phone would go away until he had completed his assignments. This was the “maximum punishment” for him, so to speak, and represented a minor hearing conflict concerning the ectodermal hearing function of the cochlea.

A few hours later, when it was evening and the house was quieter, he told her that he had a strange beeping noise in his ear, “as if a mosquito was buzzing in my ear”.
She recognized the connection immediately and said: “Oh... On the left side, right?”
Her son responded: “Right, how do you know that?”

He had perceived what was said as a hearing conflict on the mother-child side. In the evening, she went to see him again and told him in a conciliatory manner that he would get it straight back as soon as everything was working well again and he was making an effort. She tried to solve the SBS, which worked, because:
The next morning the beeping had disappeared, i.e. over the course of the night the conflict-resolved phase went through.
