In the middle of 2013, I was invited to our director's birthday party. (I do music cabaret full-time) Our director was treated to a live musical act by friends, which I thought was horrible. However, I remember looking at our director and seeing that he was obviously enjoying the performance. At that moment, my train of thought was: “Oh God, if he likes THAT, then our new program is going to be terrible!” (Our rehearsal phase for our new program had just begun and with it, of course, the pressure that the new program had to be good). Soon afterwards, I noticed a ringing in my ear when I was listening to loud music, which has continued ever since.

The ringing persisted for months and became my constant companion.

I found a solution by accident and only understood the actual background behind the tinnitus afterwards:
A few months later, our director came to a performance. Before the performance, we rehearsed a new number with him and he had a lot of good ideas for us. In the show, we tested the new number with great success. The next morning I woke up with a sudden loss of hearing: it felt like I had Oropax in my ears, hearing was significantly impaired, everything sounded like it was coming from a cave. I also had dizziness. I was initially unsettled and thought about what had happened as I remembered that I had felt the solution regarding the new program yesterday (“then it will be good after all!”) It was only then that I also remembered that I had had the tinnitus since our director's birthday. The sudden hearing loss quickly regenerated itself and the tinnitus disappeared a few weeks later. Some epi-crises could be heard for a few seconds 3 weeks later.

The SBS of the hearing ability of the inner ear proceeds the following way:

Conflict activation: Hearing conflict (“Surely this can't be true!?”)
Conflict-active CA phase: Tinnitus, humming or ringing to drown out the disturbing noise.
Conflict-resolved PCL phase: sudden hearing loss with reduced hearing ability and dizziness.
